Help secure your Microsoft account
Your Microsoft account connects you to your favorite people, settings, preferences, and websites. It's an excellent idea to help protect your account by adding security info to it. If you ever forget your password or your account is hacked, we can use your security info to verify your identity and help you get back into your account—and back to the stuff you care about.
Add security info to your account
Go to the Microsoft account webpage and sign in.
Under Password and security info, tap or click Edit security info.
Follow the instructions to add or change your security info, such as:
Alternate email addresses
Mobile or other phone numbers
Additional PCs that you recognize and trust (like your daughter’s laptop, or the PC you use at work)
A security question and answer that a stranger or hacker wouldn’t know (like your parent’s birthplace, the name of your childhood pet, or your favorite sports team)
When you’re finished, tap or click OK.
It’s a good idea to add security info at the beginning, before anything goes wrong. Of course, we realize that you’re busy, and we know you would never forget your password. Don’t worry. Even if you’re having a problem, we’ll help you then too.
