Sometimes errors occur in Movie Maker. Here are some common errors and steps to help fix them.
On the Recording tab, click the recording device that you’d like to use, and then click Properties. Go to Device usage, select Use this device (enable), and click OK.
Click the Movie Maker button, and then click Options. In the left pane, select Webcam, and then check to see that Available audio device is set to the device you enabled in the Control Panel in Step 2.
Make sure that the webcam you're trying to use is properly connected to your PC and not currently in use by another program.
Try reconnecting the webcam and restarting your PC.
Make sure a compatible device is properly connected to your PC. If it is, check that the device is connected in Movie Maker.
Click the Movie Maker button and then click Options. In the left pane, select Webcam, and then check to see that your webcam is selected in the Available webcams list.
If you get this error message make sure you’ve installed the latest version or Movie Maker and that your PC meets the minimum system requirements. If you're using the latest version of Movie Maker and your PC meets the system requirements but you still get this error, check that your PC has the latest video driver installed.
In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, on the Display tab, in the Device group is the name of the your video card and manufacturer. In the Drivers group is the driver version you have installed. Compare these with the info provided by the manufacturer’s website. If a newer driver is available, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to install it.
