Prevent CDs and DVDs from playing automatically

If you don't want CDs and DVDs to play automatically when you insert them into your computer, you can change your settings so that you get prompted to indicate which programs you want to use each time you insert a disc.

  1. Open AutoPlay by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then clicking AutoPlay.

  2. For each media type that you don't want to play automatically, select Ask me every time, and then click Save.

Now each time you insert a disc into your computer, you can choose the program it starts in.
