Turn on high contrast in Windows Media Center

High contrast is designed for people who are visually impaired. You can turn on high contrast in Windows Media Center, although it is not available for all modes within Windows Media Center. For example, high contrast is not available when viewing on a standard television or when viewing through a Windows Media Center Extender.

Windows Media Center can display three appearance schemes: Windows Media Center standard, high contrast white, and high contrast black.

The two high contrast appearance schemes in Windows Media Center have a uniform font size. The font size in Windows Media Center does not increase when you select a Windows Vista scheme that is "large" or "extra large." However, the standard Windows Media Center font size is considerably larger than the standard font size in other desktop applications and can still be useful for some visual impairments.

  1. On the start screen, scroll to Tasks, click settings, click General, and then click Visual and Sound Effects.

  2. Click High contrast white or High contrast black.

  3. Click Save.
