Specific features

The remainder of this document will address the following specific features:

Malware Reporting (MAPS)

What this feature does: If Windows Defender Offline detects malware and other forms of potentially unwanted software; it generates reports about errors, malware and potentially unwanted software. These reports are stored locally on the machine, until Microsoft Security Essentials or Windows Defender is turned on.

Information collected, processed, or transmitted: These reports include information about the files or apps in question, such as file names, cryptographic hash, vendor, size, and date stamps. In addition, MAPS might collect full URLs to indicate the origin of the file, which might occasionally contain personal information such as search terms or data entered in forms. Reports might also include the actions that you applied when Windows Defender Offline notified you that software was detected. MAPS reports include this information to help Microsoft gauge the effectiveness of Microsoft Antimalware software’s ability to detect and remove malware and potentially unwanted software.

Choice and control: If you do not want these reports to be sent do not use Windows Defender Offline.
