Use Skype for meeting online

Meet using Skype

Whether you need to meet an off-site client face-to-face or work remotely with your project group, the Skype for Windows 8 app from the Windows Store helps you get the job done. With free Skype to Skype calls and video calls, and low rates to landlines and mobile phones, you can be reached where ever you go.

Get started

  • Open the Search charm, enter Skype and then tap or click Skype. It should already be on your PC. If it's not, get the free app from the Windows Store.

  • Sign in with your Skype name and follow the on-screen instructions. If you choose to merge your Skype and Microsoft accounts, your Messenger friends will be automatically added to your existing list of contacts.

To add more contacts, open the app commands, tap or click Add contact, and search for people by name.

Call and chat

To start a call, tap or click a contact and then, tap or click the call Call icon or video call button Video call icon. To call a mobile phone or landline, tap or click the call button Call phone icon on the Skype home screen.

Make group video calls and share your screen and files

If you need to make a presentation to a group of people in different locations, start a group audio or video call with Skype for Windows desktop. You can also share your screen with them or send them your files so they can see what you're talking about.

Here's how to do that:

  • Create a group. (From the menu, tap or click Contacts, and then tap or click Create New Group. From the Contacts list, drag the contacts you want to the group.)

  • Tap or click Call group or Video call.

  • While you’re in the call, tap or click the plus button Plus icon, tap or click Share screens or Send Files, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
