Recycle Bin: Recover or remove files
Typically, when you delete a file on your PC, you actually only move it to the Recycle Bin. Unless your Recycle Bin is overflowing, the file stays there until you empty the Recycle Bin. This lets you recover files you accidentally deleted and move them back to where they were.
Notes
You can choose to permanently delete a file if you don't want it moved to the Recycle Bin. Open File Explorer, select the file, tap or click the Home tab, tap or click the arrow under the Delete button, and then choose Permanently delete.
If you want to see a confirmation message each time you send a file or folder to the Recycle Bin, you can turn on recycle confirmation. Open File Explorer, tap or click the Home tab, tap or click the arrow under the Delete button, and then choose Show recycle confirmation.
