Using Download Manager in Windows Internet Explorer 9

Download Manager lists the files you've downloaded from the Internet, shows where they're stored on the computer, and makes it easy to pause downloads, open files, and take other actions.

Open Download Manager

  1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search box, type Internet Explorer, and then, in the list of results, click Internet Explorer.

  2. Click the Tools button Picture of the Tools button , and then click View downloads.

Keep track of downloads

When you download a file, it appears at the top of Download Manager, and previously downloaded files appear in the order they were downloaded.

The following information is displayed for each downloaded file:

  • Name and file extension

  • Website of origin

  • Size

  • Location on the computer

  • Available actions (for example, Open and Pause)

Choose where downloads are stored

You can change the default download location on the computer:

  • Click Options, browse for a location, and then click OK.

  • If you aren't asked to pick a location when you download a file, the file will be stored in the default location automatically.

Remove files from Download Manager

You can remove an individual file from the Download Manager by highlighting it, and then clicking the Remove this download from the list button. To remove all of the files from the Download Manager, click the Clear list button.

  • Removing a file from the list in Download Manager doesn't delete the file from your computer.

What else can I do in Download Manager?

Right-click files in Download Manager to perform these actions.

Right-click a file, and then click this To do this

Delete File

Delete the file from the computer.

Copy download link

Copy the link you used to download the file. You can paste the link, and then save it or send it to someone else.

Go to download webpage

Open the webpage where you downloaded the file.

Open containing folder

Open the file's location on the computer.

Report that this file is unsafe

Open a SmartScreen webpage where you can report malware (malicious software).

Rerun security checks on this file

Run all security checks, including SmartScreen filter, on the file.
