To add an email account

  1. Open Windows Live Mail by clicking the Start button Picture of Start button. In the search box, type Mail, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Live Mail.
  2. In the lower-left corner, click Mail.

  3. Click the Accounts tab, and then click Email.

  4. Type your email address, password, and display name, and then click Next.

  5. Follow any additional steps, and then click Next.

  6. Click Add another email account if you want to add more accounts, or click Finish to start using Windows Live Mail.

Notes

  • To add a Gmail account, change your Gmail settings to enable POP or IMAP access before adding the account.

  • To add a Yahoo! account, you need to have Yahoo! Mail Plus.

  • If you're asked for server information while adding an account, check your provider's website or contact their customer service to find out what you have to do to finish setting up your email account.

To change server settings for your email service provider

Look on your email account provider's website for the server settings.

  1. Open Windows Live Mail by clicking the Start button Picture of Start button. In the search box, type Mail, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Live Mail.
  2. Click the email account you want to change.

  3. Click the Accounts tab, and then click Properties.

  4. Click the Servers tab, type the information provided by your email service provider, and then click OK.

    You might also have to change information in the Advanced tab.

To remove an email account

Before removing an account, check that the messages you want saved are available when you sign in to the web version. For example, if you want to remove a Yahoo! account, sign in at http://mail.yahoo.com and verify that your messages are there. If some of your messages are available only in Windows Live Mail, export your messages before removing the account.   1. Right-click the account you want to remove, and then click Remove account.Picture of account name and context menu
  2. Click Yes to confirm.

To add an RSS feed

Before you get started, make sure you have the URL for the RSS feed you want to add.

  1. Open Windows Live Mail by clicking the Start button Picture of Start button. In the search box, type Mail, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Live Mail.
  2. In the left pane, click Feeds.

  3. Click the Home tab, and then click Feed.

  4. Type the web address for the RSS feed, and then click OK.

    To view the feed, click the RSS feed under Your feeds.

To add a newsgroup

Before you get started, make sure you have the news server (NNTP) you want to add.

  1. Open Windows Live Mail by clicking the Start button Picture of Start button. In the search box, type Mail, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Live Mail.
  2. Click the Accounts tab, and then click Newsgroup.

  3. Type a display name, and then click Next.

  4. Type an email address, and then click Next.

  5. Type the news (NNTP) server, click Next, and then click Finish. The list of newsgroups will be downloaded.

  6. Select a newsgroup from the list, and then click OK.

    To view the newsgroup, in the left pane, click Newsgroups, and then click the newsgroup from the newsgroup list.
